The Networking & Information Center of the Zhejiang University is a campus level organization which provides the Internet service for all faculty and students of the university. It also undergoes tasks of the researching and training in the area of computer networking. The management committee which composed of leaders of several departments, and the experts committee play the role of important decision making in management and techniques.

In 1998, when four universities were combined, the board of the university made a great investment to the network system according to "the building network before the university's to be combined", The current network system includes the four campuses of Yuqian, xixi, Hubin,Huajiachi, and Zhijiang. The main backborn is composed of 622M ATM switchers over fiber cables of 48 single-mode fibers. With total length of 54 km it connects the five campuses and six hospitals. In each campus the backbone is consisted of ATM switchers, gigabit and fast Ethernet, so that each department can be provided at last 100M bandwidth network. The center also take the responsibility for the main node of the Cernet in the Zhejiang province. It is connected to the area center of Cernet in south Huadong area, and to the other networks in Zhejiang province.

The center provides several services of Internet : E-mail, WWW, FTP, etc. It supports the applications of digital library, video conference, distance learning providing the modernized environment for information exchanging and sharing.
